Our Mission Statement
The Mission of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Elementary School is to provide for
our students a solid academic foundation within a Catholic/Christian environment. In a climate
which nurtures self-esteem and fosters respect for others, our traditional yet
holistic educational approach to teaching prepares the students for future
success.
Our Academic Program
Holy Rosary School is
NEASC accredited. We provide a
preK-8 education,
including a full-day kindergarten program. In addition to the typical elementary
school subjects (reading, writing/English, math, science, and social studies)
our students are also required to study religion (primarily the Roman Catholic
faith) and, beginning in the fourth grade, French. In addition, every class has
gym and art once per week, grades K-6 have music and all students have
computer class once or twice per week. Computer class is held in our computer lab that has 26 student
computers and DSL Internet access.
Other Academics-Related
Activities
Each year our 7th and 8th grade students participate in a Government Day program
where they campaign for and elect city officials. The winners then get to meet
their counterparts from Gardner, many of whom come and speak at the school, and
the class visits the State House in Boston. Every other year all our 5th-8th grade
students participate in a school science fair. The winners go on to complete in
the diocesan science fair. Seventh and eighth grade students also participate in
an annual Declamation contest. Also open to the seventh and eighth grade
students is the opportunity to work on the school newsletter that is published
4-5 times/year.
Extracurricular Activities
Holy Rosary offers a number of extracurricular activities for students to
participate in. Open to all students who wish to participate in it is the spring
production of a musical, usually performed at the Monty Tech School
auditorium. Also on a musical note is the Holy Rosary chorus, open to students
in grades 4-8. Holy Rosary also has a school band, made up of students taking
private lessons here at the school. Both the band and chorus perform in
Christmas and Spring concerts.
In the sports department, in association
with Sacred Heart Elementary School, Holy Rosary supports both Girl's and Boy's
basketball teams, for 5th and 6th grades together and for 7th and 8th grades
together. Every fall with Sacred Heart, there is an intramural basketball program
for grades 6-8. Many of our students participate in independent sports activities or
in activities sponsored by their hometown schools. Finally, one of our 6th grade
teachers offers a 6-week skiing/snowboarding program at Mt. Wachusett for 4th to
8th grade students.
